(ejtsd: börcs), Sámuel, angol archeologus, szül. Londonban 1813 nov. 3., megh. u. o. 1885 dec. 27. Különösen az egyiptomi studiumokat kedvelte s mint egyiptologus részt vett Bunsennek Egyiptomról szóló munkája megirásában. Foglalkozott görög és római régészettel, valamint nummizmatikával, etnográfiával és az ékirásokkal is. Munkái: Gallery of antiquites (London 1844); An introduction of the study of hieroglyphics (1857); History of ancient pottery (1858); Description of the papyrus of Nash-Khem (1863); Manners and customs of ancient Egyptians (Wilkinson-nal, 1885-80); The records of the past of Egypt and Assyr. (1889-ig 12 köt.).
