(ejtsd: krétn) Mandell, angol történetiró, szül. Carlisleben 1843 jul. 5. Oxfordban tanult s 1866. Ugyanott a történelem tanára, 1867-ben embletoni lelkész, 1884. Pedig Cambridgeben az egyháztörténelem tanára let. Művei: Primes of -Roman history (London 1872); The age of Elisabeth (1876); The life of Simon of Montfort (1876); The Tudors and the reformation (1877); Primes of English history (1877). Főmunkája a részrehajlatlan tollal irt: History of the papacy during the period of the reformation (1882-87, eddig 4 köt.); Th elife of Cardinal Wolsey (1888); Carlisle (1889). 1886 óta szerkesztője az English Historical reviewnak, 1891. Kinevezték peterboroughi püspökké.
