(ejtsd: pálding) Jakab Kirke, amerikai iró, szül. Pleasant Valley-ben (New-York állam) 1779 aug. 22., megh. Hyde-Parkban a Hudson tava mellett 1860 ápr. 6. 1807. New-Yorkban a Salmagundi c. szatirikus folyóiratot adta ki. Több szatirát és regényeket irt, melyekben az amerikai életet festi. 1837-41. az Északamerikai Egyesült-Államok tengerészeti minisztere volt. Azután magányba vonult Hyde-Parkba.
