Dawkins

Vilmos, angol geologus és antropologus, született Buttingtonban (Montgomeryshire) 1838 dec. 26. 1862. rész vett Nagy-Britannia földtani felvételeiben, 1869. a manchesteri muzeum gondnoka, 1870. az Owen Collegeben geologiát adott elő, ahová 1874. tanárrá nevezték ki, ugyanakkor a földrajzi társaság elnökévé is megválasztották. 1875. földkörüli utazást tett. Nevezetesebb munkái: Cave hunting. Researches on the evidence of caves respecting the early inhabitants of Europe (Lond. 1874; németre ford. Spengel, Lipcse 1876); Early man in Britain and his place in the tertiary period (1880).
